"Art and Copy"

art and copy

I just saw a beautiful film on advertising, featuring some of the biggest legends in the business.  It's called "Art and Copy" and it's most definitely worth the 90 minutes you'll put into watching it, particularly if you want to gain some insight into the creative process responsible for launching campaigns from Nike's "Just Do It" to Apple's monumental "1984" Macintosh commercial.

There's a great quote in the film from Dan Wieden of Wieden and Kennedy that really reflects our own sentiments here @ VNI:

“I don’t think any organization or any career succeeds if there isn’t a goodly amount of old fashioned love involved, and a deep sense of affection for each other and people you work with, and if you can hold onto that and make your decisions with those things in mind, even when there are hard decisions you have to make, I think it’s a big difference.”

Another quote from Wieden later in the movie:

"I think the real risk comes in willing to try to be authentic. The whole trick of this business is to stop pretending you're an advertising agency and help the client forget that he's a client and sit down at a table and say, "What are we going to do? What's going to turn people on?"

Definitely sounds like he's not afraid to just be a human.  We understand fully and we love it.
